5 Tips to Deal with Uncertainties

Dream, Dream, Dream
Dream transforms into thoughts
And thoughts result in action.

Howdy Dream Aspirers,

We at DreamAppsInc have a mission to Inspire, Ignite, Motivate and Transform the lives of Dream Aspirers and help them achieve success in life with the inspirational and motivational articles and tools on our site.

If you dare to pursue your dreams, then you can make all your dreams come true. Walt Disney is an example of using Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy as a powerful tool to turn dreams into reality.

When the business fortunes of Walt Disney and his brother were at the lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner, Mickey Mouse popped out of Disney's mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time.

Uncertainty presented Walt Disney, the door of opportunities which helped him to establish the Walt Disney Empire.

Door of Opportunities

“I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.”

– Walt Disney

We all always want to want to know about the future, we want to get prepared for the moments that may materialize or it may not and we plan in advance to the unknowns. Fear of uncertainty is the certain thing we all feel, face and share in Life.

“It's not a terrible thing that we feel fear when faced with the unknown. It is part of being alive, something we all share.”

– Pema Chodron

Nelson Mandela, imprisoned in Robben Island for nearly 20 of his 27-year sentence, spent most of his time in solitude, uncertain that he would ever emerge alive.

He had anguish and despair, missing raising his children and burying both his mother and elder son, Thembi, as the apartheid regime denied him permission to attend the family funerals but kept himself grounded and connected to the outside world.

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”

– Nelson Mandela

The uncertainty in life during Pandemic may make you feel low, sad, anxious, bored due to loneliness, worried about your health, or that of those close to you.

When my family of 3 and my in-laws tested positive for Corona, I was unsure of  how things may unfold in the next 14 days as we couldn't get the bed in the hospital. As we got settled to home isolation, my choices were limited to despair and prayer.

Mindfulness, Positive Thoughts, Prayer, and Courage helped me overcome those dreadful days. The uncertainty I faced, sparked an idea to create the Information Board on our site to the share the relevant and useful information to deal with Covid-19.

“Courage is not the absence of fear – it’s inspiring others to move beyond it.”

– Nelson Mandela

Uncertainties in Life are things we cannot be sure about. Incomplete knowledge creates uncertainties and not ignorance. Uncertainty is more stressful than the certainty of bad news. Stress due to uncertainty can affect your mental and physical health.

Life of Uncertainties

“The uncertainty that we are worrying about has to do with our safety and the safety of our loved ones.”

– Melinda Massoff - PhD, Psychologist

The following five tips helped me deal with the uncertainties that stumbled me down at certain times in my life. I am sure that this information will help you too in dealing with the unknowns and uncharted territories.

5 Tips of Deal with Uncertainties

Embracing and Accepting Uncertainty

Embrace Uncertainty

“If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness, and creativity.”

– Eckhart Tolle

We cannot be 100% sure what is going to happen next in Life due to the uncertainties. Some People tend to be OK with this and find it easy to embrace new experiences. If we accept the unknown, fear turns into aliveness, alertness and drives us to find creative solutions to the problem.

Embracing uncertainty will empower you to enjoy more of life and to respond more resiliently to the trials and challenges that come your way.

Try to embrace uncertainty by experimenting with some of the tasks below:

  • Order a new food from the menu in a restaurant.
  • Go to a place you have never been.
  • See a film at the cinema without reading reviews.
  • Do an activity like hiking, trekking that you have avoided so far.
  • Listen to a different variety of music from the ones you prefer.
  • Sleep on a different side of the bed.
  • Delegate your tasks to others.

Focus on the Present

Focus on the Present

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

– Buddha

The uncertainty about the unknown leads to anxieties about the future and can make you desperate to control things that are out of your reach. If you feel sad or depressed, you are not in the Present.

Instead of sulking and fearing about the future, be focused on the Present. The only thing you can have any control over is the present moment. Adopt your mindset to take small risks and challenges. Try new things as a regular part of your life. To build tolerance of uncertainty, you will need to practice this regularly. Also, have a curious and open strategy by focusing on the outcome of your challenges.

'28' percent of your time goes to dealing with unnecessary interruptions. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are big proponents of saying no to disruptions and focusing on one thing at a time.

“Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.”

– John Allen Paulos

By practicing Mindfulness and Simple Breathing Exercise, you can bring your focus on the Present.

“Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. it will not only improve your life, it will improve the lives of all those around you.”

– Robin S. Sharma

Spend Time with the Right People

Spend Time With Right People

“Time is Precious. Make sure you spend it with the

Right People.”

To get the best out of you, spend more time with the people who bring out the best in you, not the anxiety or stress in you.

“You need to associate with people that inspire you, people that challenge you to rise higher, people that make you better. Don’t waste your valuable time with people that are not adding to your growth. Your destiny is too important.”

– Joel Osteen

Spending time with negative people is the fastest way to ruin your mood with their pessimistic attitude.

The right people for you are those who will inspire you to be who you always knew you could be. Keep this in your mind. Anyone who helps you make your half-hearted attempts more whole-hearted through kindness, dedication, and collaboration, is a guardian angel.

Embrace Failure

Embrace Failure

“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.”

– Johnny Cash

Those who dare to fail greatly can achieve great successes in life. Steve Jobs and Elon Musk dared to fail in their dream projects, embraced their failures successfully to make Macintosh personal computers and Tesla Electric cars which others only dreamt off.

Michael Jordan missed 9000 shots, almost lost 300 games, missed the winning shot 26 times in his basketball career, but embraced his failure by reflecting on his mistakes and succeeded in becoming one of the NBA’s greatest basketball players of all time.

“When we give ourselves permission to fail, we, at the same time, give ourselves permission to excel.”

– Eloise Ristad

The new normal in this Pandemic will require everyone to build different skills and practice some new behaviors. By managing the emotions and being considerate to each other during these stressful times will surely help you in a great way to pass this phase of life successfully.

If you feel stressed and coping with uncertainty on your own, talk about your feelings to a friend, family member, or health professional. You can contact the Ministry of Health’s behavioral health toll-free helpline 08046110007 or AASRA if you need someone to talk to. Aasra is a crisis intervention center for the lonely and distressed.

" Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times,
if one only remembers to turn on the light."

This too shall pass #DreamChasers, so look at the road ahead.

Kindly donate to the SMILE INDIA FOUNDATION for the welfare of underprivileged children who are very much affected because of the Pandemic. Kindly show your support to get the smile back on their little faces.

Enjoy and Ignite!

12 Habits of Highly Successful Dreamers

Dream, Dream, Dream
Dream transforms into thoughts
And thoughts result in action.

Howdy Dream Aspirers,

We at DreamAppsInc have a mission to Inspire, Ignite, Motivate and Transform the lives of Dream Aspirers and help them achieve success in life with the inspirational and motivational articles and tools on our site.

If you dare to pursue your dreams then you can make all your dreams come true. Walt Disney is an example of using courage as a powerful tool to turn dreams into reality.

Once a dreamer, Walt Disney believed that ‘if you can dream then you can do it’. He gave life to his dreams and imagination through his cartoon characters Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. His dreams transformed his life, gave birth to many animated movies and the theme park Disneyland.

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”

– Walt Disney

If you are courageous to believe in your dreams willing to take the calculated risks, embracing and learning from your failures, then nothing is impossible and nothing can stop you from achieving them.

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

– Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison’s life is a story of an indomitable spirit of perseverance who never gave up his dreams, embraced his failures, learned the hard lessons from his past mistakes, and has 1,093 U.S. patents and 2,332 patents worldwide.

The Edison Innovation Foundation is committed to educating the next generation of innovators and dreamers using Edison and his Invention Factory as the foundation to support his legacy.

“Persistence is very important. You should not give up unless you are forced to give up.”

– Elon Musk

The tech contemporaries Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos's persistent hard work and efforts transformed their dreams into big tech companies with sheer resolve and never-ending spirit.

What habits or their traits makes these dreamers so special? We all have many unfulfilled dreams and unanswered questions wanting to know how successful people carved out their path from the struggles they faced.

The following 12 habits will help you identify the missing pieces of the puzzle you are trying to solve to make your dreams come true with the right mindset.

12 Habits to Master of Successful Dreamers

1. Wake Up Early and Start the Day Fast

Wake Up Early

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

– Benjamin Franklin

The early morning hours are so peaceful and quiet. If you set your bedtime earlier and wake up early, it will make you feel that you have more control in your life as it gives jumpstart and confidence of having more hours in the day to work without any pressure.

Some studies have shown that 50% of self-made millionaires wake up at least three hours early;90% of executives wake up before 6 am on their workdays to get a head start on the day.

Sir Richard Branson said that “Over 50 years in business, I have learned that if I rise early, I can achieve so much more in a day, and therefore in life”.

2. Take Time to Relax and Exercise

“Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax.”

– Mark Black

By taking time to relax with a cup of coffee and newspaper then followed by exercise early in the morning, catching up on your emails, your day seems to be more productive as it relieves you of stress due to the long hours you will have on the day.

The following are the benefits of a minimum of 3o minutes of exercise,

  • It helps people to maintain a healthy weight.
  • It reduces the feelings of stress, anxiety & depression.
  • Builds and maintains healthy bones, muscles & joints.
  • It improves the energy level as the body produces more mitochondria.
  • Regular exercise improves the quality of sleep.

3. Plan Your DAY in Advance with Goal Setting

SMART Goals

“Plans are nothing; planning is everything.”

– Dwight D. Eisenhower

Plan your day in advance by creating a goal checklist; write down your short-term and long-term goals with a specific timeline; act on the goals on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis.

Be SMART in setting the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Rewarding, and Time-specific goals. Setting goals that are specific, measurable, achievable instills discipline and gives you direction.

To make sure your goals are clear and achievable, each one should be;

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant)
  • Measurable (meaningful, interesting)
  • Achievable (agreed, realistic)
  • Relevant (reasonable, results-oriented)
  • Time bound (time-based, time/cost limited)

Track your progress towards your goal on daily basis, analyze what went wrong, and revisit your goal setting to make changes to the action plan.

When you complete a goal, it gives you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that will drive you to your next goal with the renewed energy.

Download the free goal setting worksheet.

4. Read a Lot of Books

Read Books

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”

– Cicero

Books are very important for the mind, body, heart, and soul. Reading books makes you an empathetic and calm person as you get to understand things and people better. The more you read more you get to know about life and the correct steps to guide you to your dreams.

Reading books helps develop your time management skills; also improves the communication skills as it increases your vocabulary.

A book is a dream you hold in your hand. It unlocks your mind, stimulates your thought process, and lets you think out of the box.

5. Take Breaks to Unwind

“Wisdom is knowing when to have rest, when to have activity, and how much of each to have.”

– Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

To renew and rejuvenate ourselves, it is necessary to take breaks to avoid the burnout. Incorporate the self-care breaks in your daily routine to heal your mind and body.

Taking short breaks at work for typically 15 to 30 minutes like going out for a walk will increase your productivity as it provides an opportunity for psychological detachment.

It’s okay to stop and rest when you need one. If you get tired, instead of quitting or abandoning your dream project or work my advice to you would be to take a break as it can lead to breakthroughs in your work.

6. Spend Time with Inspiring People

Believe In Your Dreams

“Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.”

– Oprah Winfrey

To get the best out of you, spend more time with the people who bring out the best in you, not the anxiety or stress in you.

“Spending time with negative people can be the fastest way to ruin a good mood. Their pessimistic outlooks and gloomy attitude can decrease our motivation and change the way we feel. But allowing a negative person to dictate your emotions gives them too much power in your life. Make a conscious effort to choose your attitude.”

– Amy Morin

Spending time with negative people is the fastest way to ruin your mood with their pessimistic attitude. You have to identify them faster and avoid their company as soon as possible. They will find ways to stop you from pursuing your dreams.

7. Say No to Disruptions and Focus

Focus

“Only through focus can you do world-class things, no matter how capable you are.”

– Bill Gates

'28' percent of your time goes to dealing with unnecessary interruptions. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are big proponents of saying no to disruptions and focusing on one thing at a time.

“These three things leads to positive non-linear results: clarity, focus, and time. Simple but not easy.”

– Shane Parrish

Warren Buffet considers his ability to focus as one of the main reasons for his success in the highly volatile stock market.

8. Spend Time with Your Loved Ones

Happy Family

“Your family and your love must be cultivated like a garden. Time, effort, and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep any relationship flourishing and growing.”

– Jim Rohn

Spending time with your loved ones who care about you is one of the great blessings life can offer. Spending time with your kids and significant other gives you an energy boost and make your mind feel pleasant as it contributes towards making memories.

Elon Musk watches movies, hangs out with his friends and plays first-person shooters with his children’s.

“If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.”

– Mother Teresa

If you have a bad day at work, go home and spend some quality time with your family, forget your worries and frustrations.

9. Reflect on Your Day

Reflect

“The journey into self-love and self-acceptance must begin with self-examination… until you take the journey of self-reflection, it is almost impossible to grow or learn in life.”

– Iyanla Vanzant

Reflection enables individuals to think to think more deeply and holistically about an issue, leading to learning and greater insights.

It makes the decision making process more effective and rational which improves the performance.

To lead a happy and successful life self-reflection is a critical step. Elon Musk constantly solicits feedbacks and does self-analysis.

10. Embrace Failure

Never Give Up

“Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I’ve met people who don’t want to try for fear of failing.”

– J.K. Rowling

“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

– Steve Jobs

Embrace Failure

11. Get Enough Sleep

Enough Sleep

“Your future depends on your dreams, so go to sleep.”

– Mesut Barazany

The University of Manchester study found that people who slept longer with positive thoughts reported more satisfying sleep quality. Sleep is one of the best meditations to improve your mood and focus.

In order to be at your peak performance, you need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Follow a routine to help relax and wind down before sleep, such as reading a book, listening to music, or taking a bath.

“It is a common experience that a problem difficult at night is resolved in the morning after the committee of sleep has worked on it.”

– John Steinbeck

12. Take Vacations

Dream, Dream, Dream
Dream transforms into thoughts
And thoughts result in action.

Hope you all are doing great! Thanks for supporting this dreamer blog.

This blog mantra is to inspire, ignite, motivate and transform the dreamer’s passion to achieve success in life.

This is the first of the Self Mastery Series and a very important one to start with.

Do you want to unlock your true potential?

Have you ever wondered why are finding difficult to achieve your dreams or to complete your even daily tasks?

Do you want to know to break free from the mental barrier which is preventing you to achieve your goals?

Do you have trouble in concentration and in focusing on the activities you do?

If you want to know the answer, to unlock your true potential and to break the mental barrier that stops you to act decisively, if you are reading this post right now, you have come to the right place!!!

The key to Self Mastery and to achieve all the successes you want in life is “Self- Discipline”.

Discipline – Training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character; control gained by enforcing obedience or order; orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior; self-control; a rule or system of rules governing conduct or activity.

A survey from 2011 revealed that approximately 27 percent of respondents felt they needed help with self-control and willpower.

"Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates.
There's plenty of movement, but you never know
if it's going to be forward, backwards, or sideways."

Self-Discipline is the essential and a very valuable commodity every individual should acquire to achieve their goals. It helps people to overcome laziness and procrastination, to beat addictions and to stick with the life-changing decisions.

The capability to control your behavior, actions, emotions and feelings through self-discipline forms the building blocks of success in your personal life and line of business.

ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS BY MASTERING SELF-DISCIPLINE

Self-Discipline shows up in your perseverance in the face of failure, your willpower to push and fight back, your self-control to resist distractions and in your courage to reach the shore of success.

Napoleon Hill, after interviewing 500 of the richest people in America, concluded that “Self-discipline is the master key to riches

Start with Small Things

If we want to achieve big in life, we have to start small so that we have the control over it and execute it on time. We’re more likely to succeed if we take one small step at a time.

If you want to exercise regularly, start with the simple set of exercise routine for 10 to 15 mins so that you don’t wear out and lose interest.

Once you start realizing the benefits of your exercise routine, it will become a full-blown habit as it improves your quality of life.

Great things start small but with time and effort, it pulsates into a big achievement and you’ll harvest large benefits.

Concentrate on one Habit at a Time

Our habits form our character which reflects on the persona which we showcase to the outside world.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny!!!

Self-Discipline is the key positive character to shape our destiny and to achieve our goals.

It leads you to the self-confidence and self-esteem which gives you the ultimate sense of worth. Your brain releases endorphins which makes you happy and proud.

Focus on one good habit which you want to develop or one bad habit which we want to get rid of.

By concentrating on one habit at a time you will not get exhausted and will see long-lasting changes.

Take a piece of paper and start writing the 5 good habits you want to develop in the year and the bad habits you want to repeal from your life.

To develop a habit of medium complexity it takes approximately twenty-one days of repetition.

Sacrifice immediate Gratifications

Jim Rollins in his fifty years of research found that people who sacrificed the short term gratifications or pleasure to enjoy the long-term rewards succeeded greatly in life.

Discipline weighs ounces,
but regret weighs tons.”
~Jim Rollins

Don’t fall into the trap of immediate gratification; exert self-control over the pleasure to enjoy the long lasting reward down the line.

Set Active and Achievable Goals

Be SMART in setting the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Rewarding, and Time-specific goals. Setting active goals that are specific, measurable, achievable instills discipline and gives you the direction.

To make sure your goals are clear and achievable, each one should be

Ø  Specific (simple, sensible, significant)
Ø  Measurable (meaningful, interesting)
Ø  Achievable (agreed, realistic)
Ø  Relevant (reasonable, results-oriented)

Ø  Time bound (time-based, time/cost limited)

Create a goal’s checklist; write down your long-term goals with a specific timeline and act on the goals on the monthly, weekly and daily basis.

Track your progress towards your goal on daily basis, analyze what went wrong and revisit your goal setting to make changes to the action plan.

Examples of long-term goals can be,

  • Become a better manager
  • Start and build my own business
  • Win a promotion
  • Be healthier and happier
  • Lose weight (Be Specific - “I have lost 5 pounds.”)
  • Be more productive with the work
  • Save ‘xxx’ money for the future

When you complete a goal it gives you the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction which will drive you to your next goal with renewed energy.

Download the free goal setting worksheet.

Break your Goals into Smaller Action Items

Your next action plan will be breaking your goals into small action items and map it with an immediate reward.

This will let you experience small wins and lets your success breed more success.

Over the period of time, these small accomplishments will lead you to your bigger goals and will give you immense happiness.

Manage your Time Effectively

Rule: “Every minute spent in planning saves ten minutes in execution.”

Once you have the activity list done, organize it by priority to manage your time effectively. Use the 80/20 rule, which says that 80% of your results come from 20% of your activities.

Prioritize your tasks using the ABCDE methodology by considering the importance of the task,

A = Must do – serious consequences for non-completion
B = Should do – mild consequences for non-completion
C = Nice to do – no consequences for non-completion
D = Delegate – everything possible
E = Eliminate – everything you can to free up more time

You should concentrate on a single task until its 1oo percent complete.

“The discipline of good time management
spreads to all your other disciplines.”

Control and Eliminate Negative Thought Patterns

The biggest obstacle to success in life is fear of failure, expressed in the feeling that, “I can’t! I can’t! I can’t!”

Negative thought patterns have a depressing impact on our personal and professional lives and create fear in our inner mind.

The courage of discipline will help you in overcoming fear and in stopping the negative thought patterns.

Instead of avoiding the fear confront it, this will make the fear get smaller and you will become braver.

Repeat the words to cancel fear, “I can do it!” over and over, to build up your courage and confidence.

You can hear motivational videos and surround yourself with the positive people to eliminate the negative thinking.

Watch this 3-minute motivational video ‘DO IT’ every day in the early morning to get going.

Be Focused on your Goals

To maintain the high level of discipline you have to be focused on your goals.

The two main factors which will help you in maintaining the focus are removing distractions from time wasters and focusing on one task at a time instead of multi-tasking.

“Once you have commitment,
you need the discipline and
hard work to get you there.”

Be Persistent in your Efforts

In the face of hardship, the only habit which can drive you forward is the persistence.

Self-Discipline will not be possible without the high level of persistence.

Persistence is actually self-discipline in action. It gives the never give up attitude even in failure and will lead to the ultimate success.

“The greatest test of self-discipline is when you persist
in the face of adversity, and you drive yourself forward
to complete your tasks 100%, no matter how you feel.”

You will become a better and stronger person by persisting when you feel like quitting.

Set Yourself Up to Celebrate Success

Celebrate success for every small win and treat yourself to the occasion as it creates a deeper hunger to achieve even greater triumphs.

It will also help you to sustain self-discipline for your future endeavors.

Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself, Here is an opportunity for you to celebrate like never before,my own power, and my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary.”
~ Anthony Robbins
